The School of Postgraduate Studies, Ahmadu Bello University is undergoing serious introspection and review in order to enhance its capacity for improved effective service delivery in line with global best practices, the institution's Vice Chancellor, Prof Kabir Bala, said in Zaria today.
Speaking on the occasion of 2019/2020 postgraduate matriculation ceremony at School's Auditorium, the Vice Chancellor explained that this followed the University's quest to improve its "global ranking as well as aspire to transition towards the prestigious position of a postgraduate university in the near future."
The Vice Chancellor also said that ABU postgraduate applications, admissions and registration processes had been fully automated, just as student progress was now being monitored virtually and seamlessly via the School's new upgraded portal.
"This is to further complement the new direction of the School of Postgraduate Studies and the University in the steady but progressive automation of service delivery to students in order to ensure timely graduation", he said.
Prof Bala further explained that the School had rolled out several laudable services through its official handles to cater for the students' varied needs.
To this effect, the Vice Chancellor, therefore, implored the matriculating students to avail themselves of the new developments by engaging and interacting with the University via the numerous organs of the School namely its website, Twitter handle, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Call center for their needs, enquiries and support.
While congratulating the matriculating students on their successful admission into the University, the Vice Chancellor assured them that their admission was the beginning of a good future that was awaiting them and that every necessary resource to take them there was available in the University.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Dean of School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof Sani A Abdullahi, reminded the students that to obtain a degree or a diploma in ABU, the student must be found worthy in both learning and character.
"Our cardinal purpose is not only to equip you with an education, with the spirit of an intellectual enquiry, curiosity and resilience, but also you must be found to be morally upright," he said.
A total of 7537 students took the matriculation oath at the event today.
